Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has dissolved his cabinet and asked members to complete their hand-over to permanent-secretaries in their respective ministries and agencies latest tomorrow.
Okorocha, who won the governorship position on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has joined camp with the new opposition coalition, despite the fact that the leadership of APGA is embroiled in a crisis with some factions distancing themselves from the APC.
In a “stakeholders meeting” held on Tuesday at the Sam Mbakwe Exco Chambers in Owerri, Okorocha said the intended cabinet reshuffle is geared towards “bringing others in the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the government and injecting new ideas that would see the state move higher”.
“APC as a child of character,” said Okorocha. “The All Progressives Grand Alliance, led by Chief Victor Umeh; and the one led by Governor Peter Obi (of Anambra); and the neutral one led by me have no future. That is why Igbos should come together as one to join APC. We should not be left out. Imo is in APC and I am in APC.”
During a recent “open rating” of all political appointees in the state, moderated by Okorocha, and which held at the Ahiajoku Centre, some public office holders received unfavourable ratings. This development had sparked intense lobbying in government circles as candidates for the perceived soon-to-be vacant posts surfaced.
Following this, activities at most government offices in the state have become almost grounded as senior officials made frantic efforts to retain their positions.
