The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Jigawa on Wednesday said it arrested two suspects, who threatened to kidnap a top female government official in Dutse.
The NSCDC Commandant, Muhammad Gidado, said that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday in Dutse.
Mr. Gidado said the suspects demanded N500,000 from their victim, adding that they were arrested after receiving complaints from the victim on her encounter with them.
He said that the suspects had threatened to wipe out the victim’s family if she failed to give them the money.
The commandant also said that the suspects had mentioned names of the victim’s children, their school and number plate of the school bus that conveyed them to school. He said the suspects had also mentioned the name of her husband and where he spent his time after office hours.
Mr. Gidado said the suspects were arrested following intelligence report and had confessed committing the offence.
He also said the NSCDC arrested two suspects who allegedly sold improved rice seeds to consumers in Kazaure Local Government Area.
He said no fewer than 40 people fell sick after the rice meal,
The commandant explained that the improved seeds were provided by the local government to be distributed to farmers for planting in the area. He said investigations revealed the suspects had so far sold 30 bags of the rice to more than 50 people in the area.
He also said that the suspects confessed committing the offence.
