UPDATE: Rivers State Violence Continues

10 July, 2013
Local
Reports reaching us say that random shots are heard near the Government House in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
The shots are being fired by a group of bandits and police officers, according to the local reports, and tanks could be seen deployed to the State Assembly complex.
Tuesday, July 9, 2013, violence in Rivers State continues.
According to an eyewitness, gunshots could be heard on Aggrey Road -- about 8 kilometres from the Government House. The shots are said to have been fired by persons allegedly loyal to a state lawmaker in the camp of Minister Nyesom Wike.
Teargas canisters were also thrown by police forces around the Government House to drive away supposed Governor Rotimi Amaechi supporters. The police explained that the ban on any form of procession in the state is still on, so they had to take action to disperse the youth.
Neither Governor Amaechi nor the Rivers Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari, are currently available for comments.
More details later.
